Life is a sentient ankh that could be found enshrined in Empath Abbey during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Brother Antos as he appeared at the Abbey would advise the Stranger to meditate upon Love at the nearby shrine. In doing so, the hero made contact with "Life," an entity that resonated thoughts – particularly those of love. The ankh then explained the significance of the Candle of Love and bade the Stranger consult the bard beyond the secret passage to learn more of it.[1]

NES remake
- In the alleged journal of the Avatar discovered by historians Robert DeMain and Carlotta Stein, the Stranger claims not to recall any of conversation they had with Life, recalling only that it imparted knowledge of the candle. The hero was left with a feeling that the application of this information would be apparent when the time came.[2]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV, Life tells the Stranger that only the Exotic Armour can save them in the Abyss.[3]
- Other sentient ankhs found in Ultima IV include the Ankh of Spirituality, the Ankh of Knowledge and (in the Nintendo remake only) the Ankh of the Future.
