Leather Vest of Flameproof

The Leather Vest of Flameproof is a simple cuirass which has been enchanted to protect its wearer against any form of fire, in Ultima Underworld II.

Description

This magical artifact could be found alongside the remains of one of the Guardian's warriors who met his end attempting to infiltrate the Tomb of Praecor Loth (Their bodies may be found on the third story of the tomb, near the ladder that leads to the pit trap on the level below). Once equipped, whomever used this vest would find himself able to withstand any source of fire, be they magical or mundane. Those wearing it were rendered immune to all flaming projectiles, and could even walk unharmed across boiling lava.

Trivia

• In Ultima Underworld, dragonskin boots fulfilled a similar function to the Leather Vest of Flameproof, although they did not grant their wearer protection from fire sources other than lava.
• Due to the complexity of the enchantment, only the spell Name Enchantment - or paying Merzan - can reveal the true power of this vest.
