Laurana is a mage in the service of Lord British. She may be found in Castle Britannia during Ultima IX.

Description[edit]

Laurana was an absent-minded and forgetful woman, who was prone to regularly misplacing her potions and reagents. Should the Avatar consult her, she would be glad to offer up the contents of her laboratory to the hero and to do her best to explain some of the particulars of spellcraft: namely the functioning of mana. Unfortunately, she could not explain the method by which a magic user might bind spells into a a spellbook, as she had forgotten the ritual. If asked, she would instruct the hero to ask around Britain for somebody who better knew the procedure.

Later, as the crisis cause by the Guardian's columns progressed, Laurana would also comment on the changing proximity of Britannia's moons, cautioning that their closeness foreboded disaster.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • In the fan-made dialogue patch for Ultima IX, Laurana is written to be far less scatter-brained. She will also reveal that she is an apprentice to the court magician Nystul, and that she acts in his stead while he is in Valoria.
