Kintara is a barmaid at The Humble Palate in New Magincia in Ultima V: Lazarus.

The adopted daughter of Genne and Felicity, Kintara happily greeted the Avatar, and wasted no time telling the hero about Lewis, upon learning the hero’s true identity. She felt certain that Lewis would one day become an Avatar just like the hero. Kintara was quick to tell the hero all about Lewis, saying he was a man who feared nothing, and was virtuous beyond all reproach, who tread into the most fearful dungeons without a thought. If the hero chose to try to dissuade Kintara in her infatuation, she would accuse the hero of talking to her sister Shimoka or Genne, but that she was truly in love and would not change her mind.[1]

Kintara told the hero how she enjoyed her work at The Humble Palate, and was learning to cook from Felicity, but preferred to work with the customers. She thought of her adopted parents as family, and loved them greatly, but was pleased to finally have her own cottage which she shared with her sister, who despite being identical twins, she felt they were very different in attitude.

If told that Lewis did not truly love her[2], Kintara would at first be heartbroken and furious, but would soon come to terms with the reality of the situation, and would become closer with her sister once again. The Avatar could also learn from Shimoka that Kintara had recently begun to take morning walks around the island[3], and if the Avatar asked her about this, Kintara suggested the hero join her at the graveyard shortly after 5 am to learn the reason for her wanderings.

Should the Avatar meet Kintara in the graveyard, the young woman would reveal she often hears word on the wind when she walks amongst the stones, but she could not understand them. The Avatar was able to understand the voice, although, was unable to speak with the spirit. The voice pleaded with the Avatar to search the swamps to the east to find a chest which contained the spirit’s tale, and asked the hero to give it to the person indicated within the journal. Within the chest, the Avatar discovered “Usami’s Journal”, which detailed the life of Kintara and Shimoka’s father, and how their mother Laurentia died during childbirth. Usami, hearkbroken, had given the children away to Genne and Felicity in Trinsic, and had traveled to Magincia to spread his wife’s ashes, where he also died. Shaken, Kintara asked the hero present the journal to Genne, so that her family might better understand their past.
