Joseph is a humble shepherd living in Vesper during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
The wise Joseph claimed to be in the midst of a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Humility, and could inform the Stranger that Pride was not a virtue of the Avatar and that it had no shrine.[1]

NES remake
- In the supposed journal of the Avatar (discovered by historians Robert De Main and Carlotta Stein) Joseph, Plain, Simple, Gem and Randal all speak to the Stranger as a group, answering the hero's questions collectively.[2]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (Japanese original), either Joseph or Plain can be identified as a shepherd in the same location. This character was removed in the English localization.
