Transcript: Jimmy

Jimmy is the sickly son of Woolfe, Trinsic’s blacksmith during the events of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

The ailing boy could be found at the shore of the walled city's lake, which he was occasionally allowed to visit during his stay at the local healer.[1] In conversation, Jimmy would demonstrate his keen interest in ships by imparting details as to the workings of the mystical HMS Cape, a vessel magically imparted with greater endurance and speed than any other. Elaborating, the boy explained to the Avatar that the Cape’s extraordinary hull strength originated from its enchanted wheel – which the selfsame hero had recovered whilst questing towards Avatarhood in Ultima IV – while it owed its swiftness to the particular way in which its sails were rigged.[2] Jimmy added that the plans for the ship were rumored to remain in the possession of its builder's grandson, Master Hawkins.[3]

The son of Woolfe the blacksmith of Trinsic, Jimmy talked extensively about ships, and his desire to some day captain a vessel on the seas of Britannia. A fountain of knowledge about all things maritime, Jimmy told the hero about blue tassles, Master Hawkins and HMS Cape, Blackthorn’s invasion of Windemere, and the boy was a wealth of sailor talk that he learned from the Wounds of Honor. The young man also also listened eagerly to all of the Avatar’s stories of seagoing adventure.[4]

Constantly tended for his illness by the Trinsic healer Leila,[5] the Oppression used Jimmy's sickness to force his father to create weapons for them. The Avatar could help Jimmy by getting a cure for his condition from Madam Pendra in Yew, thus allowing his father Woolfe the freedom to begin supplying arms for the Resistance.[6]

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

In The Ultima 6 Project, Jimmy had made his dream true, and became a merchant with his own ship, the Madame Pendra. When meeting Jimmy during the siege of Trinsic, he remembered the last time he met the hero and told the Avatar that his ship had been damaged by gargoyles and was not seaworthy at the moment. He however promised to do his part in the plan to break the siege of the city. After the siege was broken in battle, Jimmy asked the Avatar for help to repair the ship, saying that Strom in Yew should know how to repair it.

The Avatar got Strom's plans and after turning five Yew logs into boards, helped Jimmy to repair his ship. Jimmy rewarded the party with numerous reagents after it was done, before setting sail.
