Gulik is a human outcast living on the first level of the Abyss. He appears in Ultima Underworld.

Description[edit]

The Avatar found him inside the outcast encampment that Bragit had pointed out. Gulik was also called "the blessed" because he was considered lucky to not have the scruples to eat cockroaches, thus never getting hungry. He however was reluctant to have a deeper conversation, until the Avatar had spoken with their leader, Hagbard.

Returning after meeting the man, Gulik was now talkative. He felt being in the Abyss was worse than hanging, and cursed Sir Cabirus as an idealistic fool who had only escaped his punishment by an early death. Gulik himself admitted that he was here because of murder and made no bones about being guilty. He said to speak with their leader Hagbard for more information. Gulik advised the Avatar that barter was different for the groups in the Abyss. Mountain-folk loved gold, while goblins had no use for it.

He was later rescued by Garamon when the volcano erupted.

Lore[edit]

This is the usual haunt of Gulik, another outcast. In personality, he is as appealing as the cockroaches that make up his usual meal. He is reluctant to speak to anyone who has not already spoken with that pathetic Hagbard. He's quite a merchant, by the limited standards of the Abyss' inhabitants; if rambling discourses from shattered minds appeal to you, have him speak on the topic of barter and trade.
