Greyson is a bard living in Britain during the events of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

Speaking with him during the day at the town square, Greyson said that he was an adventurer who had been many places and seen many things. He had seen the Stone Guardians, and willing revealed how to gain access to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. During their conversation, Greyson asked the Avatar who the true king was. If the Avatar declared that it was Lord British, Greyson revealed he did not accept Blackthorn's dictatorship, and thus revealed the mantra of Compassion to the Avatar.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Greyson proudly introduced himself as an adventurer, troubadour, defender of Justice, and wooer of ladies, and that he currently was interested in warming the heart of Telila, the cleaning maid. He told the Avatar that he had travelled to every corner of Britannia, even the Isle of the Avatar, and there the Stone Guardians wait, protecting the Codex from all but those who are on a sacred quest from a Shrine. Greyson directed the Avatar to Jessica at the Sanctuary in Cove if the hero wished to find the Shrine of Compassion.[2]

Greyson was outspoken in his distaste towards the Oppression, saying Britain had been turned to a city of hushed words and nervous politeness thanks to Blackthorn, and his lackey Maul, suggesting that the guard had was running a protection racket with the merchants of the city. He felt Yew under Judge Dryden was a city where the concept of Justice no longer existed, and that Minoc had gone from a city of self-Sacrifice, to a city of sacrificing oneself to the Oppression. He admitted to having heard of the Resistance, but knew nothing of them personally.

Greyson spoke highly of the Bard's Academy, saying Salan was an excellent teacher who kept Compassion alive in Britain. He was impressed by the talents of the young bard Teril, but less so of that of Ludrag.

In The Ultima 6 Project, a tombstone in Britain reads, "His rapier wit and easy charm - Did knaves and ladies both disarm - So Greyson's secret stayed concealed - From those who would to Blackthorn yield."
