Only appearance: Ultima VII

Greer plants are a species of Britannian flora capable of rapid movement that appear in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

A curiosity of the early Age of Armageddon, greer plants appear to grow only in Britannia's largest wetland of this period, the Bog of Desolation, and are of interest for their tendency to quickly spread and retract their long, spirally-arranged leaves, which otherwise remain tightly bundled. This reflex, while potentially imparting the plant with a threatening appearance, is entirely harmless. Unlike reapers, greer plants are not noted to possess sentience.

Lore[edit]

The Greer plant is especially fascinating, for it spends most of its life huddled with its leaves wrapperd [sic] up in a tight ball. However, every so often, the leaves will unfurl, radiating out from the stem.

Trivia[edit]

  • Greer plants are named after Ultima VII programmer Jim Greer.
  • An illustration of a greer plant (seen above) appears to have been mistakenly used in the bestiaries of Memoirs of Sir Cabirus and The Book of Fellowship to depict reapers, incongruous with those creatures' tree-like facade. Greer plants themselves are otherwise acknowledged only in Brommer's Flora, a publication found in Ultima VII.
