Genne is the owner of The Humble Palate in New Magincia in Ultima V: Lazarus.

Genne was quick to introduce himself to all new visitors at his establishment, showing them around the tavern, and encouraging them to partake of his services. The innkeeper said that he didn't consider running the inn his job, for that implied obligations, but instead he ran the inn because in New Magincia people strive to do what is best for society as a whole. Asked about his family, Genne spoke highly about his daughters Kintara and Shimoka, saying they had become quite adept at running the inn in his old age, and hoped the hero would be able to draw them away from Lewis, who he thought a braggart and imbecile. He was glad Shimoka was immune to his charms, but worried Kintara doted on him too much, and would allow herself taken advantage of. He also praised his wife Felicity, and her prowess in the kitchen.[1]

Genne had left Trinsic with his family when the political climate in the town had begun to change, and praised his new home in New Magincia, saying it was one of the most idyllic places in Britannia, and its charms effected the residents as well. Lord Windemere had eagerly helped with a grant to allow his establishment of an inn on the island. He was glad the residents had come together to build his daughters a home of their own recently. Genne was familiar with all the residents of the island, and was willing to speak at length about them should the Avatar inquire. Genne praised Yasuda's fishing prowess, and noticed that Fumiko was quite deferential towards her husband. Genne was fond of the young lad Tetsuo, and found Tomoka an industrious woman. Wartow's quiet intellect and inward meditation impressed Genne, and he felt Shirita must find it difficult to tend the graveyard now that her husband Kaid was laid to rest there.

If the Avatar had learned about Braunam's residence at the inn from Daem in Buccaneer's Den[2], Genne would provide the hero with a key to his room, provided the Avatar knew the Resistance password: Dawn.

If the Avatar recovered 'Usami's Journal' from the swamps to the east of New Magincia, Genne would discover the tale of how Usami had lost his wife Valencia during childbirth, and how he had been forced to give away his daughters Shimoka and Kintara in Trinsic, where Genne and Felicity later adopted them as their own.

If finally convinced to repair the roof by Felicity and the Avatar, Genne will ask the hero to have Tomoka send some straw to the inn to be used for repairs. The Avatar can then choose to assist Genne with mending the broken roof.
