Futurian is a talorid whose function is to examine possible futures and plan for them accordingly. It appears in Ultima Underworld II.

Description[edit]

Futurian, like Historian, believed that Talorus would best be served by returning to modes of operation which had been in place prior to the arrival of the Guardian, and would assist the Avatar in skupping a new Bliy Skup Ductosnore that the talorid race might revert to its former state. When the hero approached it, it would advise to seek a Delgnigzator from the Vorz production area and a controller data-crystal which it had set aside in its Necessity Chamber, as well as revealing that it would be necessary to kill the current Ductosnore in order to gain access to its skup chambers. It would also direct the hero to seek Data Integrator and the Dialogicians so as to receive clear instructions in performing the skupping process.

Prior to conspiring with the Avatar, however, the Futurian informed the Guardian as to the hero's intended actions, such that it could evade its own destruction. As a result, the Vorz of Talorus were reconfigured to view the Avatar as a hostile alien. Futurian would explain that this move had been a tactical necessity, and warned the hero to take precautions against the now violent creatures.[1]

Lore[edit]

This entity is concerned with the Future, hence its efficiency coined function code. It forms plans, and makes very accurate predictions of events which have not yet happened. I do not like the Futurian, because I do not find contemplation of the future a pleasant or rewarding occupation. You would probably find him more interesting, though. He also possesses a large stock of items, which he believes will become useful at some point in the future.

Trivia[edit]

  • Futurian speaks unaccented English after telepathically processing the Avatar's language. This is due to its attunement with a Talorian future when the realm has greater contact with foreign dimensions.[1]
  • Futurian's seeming oracular powers appear to stem from an ability to rapidly analyze the various potential chains of events arising from current happenings and to then pick the most probable outcome and prepare for it.[1]
