Froed is a child found in a grove of trees in Skara Brae during the events of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

Froed had been separated from his father Greymarch while on the run, and hadn't heard of him in a while. After the Avatar told him that his father was in prison in Yew, he asked the hero to send word he is alive to his father, in order to reassure him.[1]

A small frightened child of about 10, Froed had been hiding from the Oppression in Skara Brae after his father Greymarch was arrested for attacking a Shadowlord who was harassing Anniel in Trinsic.[2][3][4] Froed had managed to flee with the help of the paladin Rowenie, and had since gone into hiding. Froed knew little of what happened to the knight who rescued him, and showed gratitude if the Avatar knew her name, hoping the lady survived. If told his father still lived, Froed begged the hero to report back to Greymarch in Yew his location, so that the despairing warrior may have renewed hope.[5]

Originally from Skara Brae, Froed had left the town with Greymarch after the death of his mother. If accused of stealing food from Valos and Tamethe, Froed would at first adamantly deny any wrongdoing, but would later admit to the thefts. The young child felt he had no other choice to survive, for the town had changed much since he last lived there, and his home was now owned by Toama, and the people were now scared and frightened. He also was not strong enough to hunt in Spiritwood, and hadn't the magical knowledge to cast Create Food, which he had learned about from his friend Desiree at Lord British's Castle. If the Avatar told Tamethe about Froed's plight, she would take pity on the boy and agree to feed him, an offer which Froed readily took up.[6]
