Elissa is an Ophidian adherent of Order who is stationed at Serpent's Fang. She appears in The Silver Seed.
Description[edit]
At the time of the Avatar's arrival at Serpent's Fang, Elissa served as the resident mage of the fortress, holding first rank in her profession such that she stood in roughly equal standing to Tsandar.[1] Initially, she proved exceedingly wary of the Avatar, and at the first encounter, she would threaten to bring the hero before Isstanar for questioning, fearing the possibility of an alliance with the forces of Chaos.[2] Upon seeing that the hero possessed the Amulet of Balance, however, she would apologize for her doubts, recognizing them as the Champion of Balance.[3]
Unlike her compatriots, who had reservations about the recently appointed Isstanar, Elissa spoke freely of her admiration for the new commander, expressing a desire to possibly follow his example and make the "final sacrifice" that would transfer her consciousness into an automaton.[4] She would also mention the reservations she had regarding the rule of the previous Commander, Ardiniss, who had been much-beloved by Tsandar and Surok. Elissa felt that he had begun to grow undisciplined in his old age, and she mused that it might have been fortunate that he had fallen in battle before the legitimacy of his command could be questioned.[5]
She appeared to be a proficient magic-user and merchant, and was more than happy to sell several spells for gold. Elissa also offered the Avatar magical training for a price, which made her the only magic trainer available to the hero. Despite the excellent results, she revealed during training due to various mishaps that she was not a natural teacher.

Trivia[edit]
- Iolo, Shamino, and Dupre will all express a great deal of impatient consternation should they be present while Elissa questions the Avatar as to the legitimacy of their presence at Serpent's Fang.
- Elissa is affected by the anti-force of Order and is especially prejudiced against those not following Order, or those she thinks of as failing Order.
