Some mages are not willing to kill wild animals, as to their reasoning these animals have no intelligence and therefore are not capable of being evil. To solve this dilemma, they use Deter. Wild animals at once lose the will to attack the mage, seeing him or her no longer as any kind of threat. This makes it different from Cause Fear, which makes the foes flee in terror.

It is a spell useful for the virtuous, but useless against any creature that has even an ounce of intelligence.

Lore[edit]

This spell often discourages hostile, non-sentient animals from attacking its subject.
