Derydlus is a tavern patron in Moonglow in Ultima VI.
Description[edit]
Derydlus was a fun loving man who frequently visited the Blue Bottle Tavern to enjoy a bottle of Frasier's Folly. Mandrake had once told the Avatar that Derydlus could drink him under the table, and Derydlus certainly lived up to his reputation. He especially enjoyed drinking with his good buddy Manrel the alchemist. Derydlus highly recommended that the Avatar get his fortune told by Penumbra, firmly believing that she had a gift for telling the future.[1]

- Derydlus is based upon an Amtgard player who assumed the persona of Sir Derydlus Greystone in the organization's former Grand Duchy of Barad Duin, where Ultima VI writer Dr. Cat and artist-writer Manda Dee (Penumbra) also participated and, like Richard Garriott with the Society for Creative Anachronism, portrayed many of its members as characters within the game. In Amtgard, Derydlus reigned as Barad Duin's second grand duke (its third monarch in total) with Tholden von Bazilius his chancellor, and was later knighted by Grand Duchess Sylaina Greenwood following the realm's reformation as a chapter of the offshoot High Fantasy Society. The Ultima VI character's friend, Manrel, also numbered among Barad Duin's citizens.[2][3]
