The Monitor Crematorium

The Crematorium of Monitor is truly an unique creation on the Serpent Isle and appears in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

The centerpiece of the building is the cremator, a machine that will automatically burn a body to ashes once inserted in the machine, and fill the ashes into a urn for burial. In Monitor, it is believed that the ashes contain the essence of a person, their very being. Renfry the undertaker paid the Avatar 100 Monetari for every body of a dead pikeman brought to him. Later, when the city was sacked by the Goblins, Renfry's own ashes can be found, indicating that the man had been burned alive in his own crematorium.

The Crematorium plays a very significant part in Serpent Isle, leading to the death of an important NPC.

Lore[edit]

I stopped by the Crematorium to see if old Renfry was still there. He was always a bit forgetful, so I wasn't too surprised when he didn't remember me. He did offer me a job, though, and the pay wasn't too bad. I said I appreciated the offer, but had important business to attend to. I then asked him if he had seen any strangers in town recently. He scratched his head and said he hadn't noticed, but he'd been busy preparing the memorial for a man who had recently disappeared and was presumed dead.

Trivia[edit]

  • The cremator can destroy any item in the game. It is very much possible to use it to destroy plot-critical items, resulting in the game becoming unsolvable.
