Commander Hays is the former commander of Valoria in Ultima IX.

Description

Before the Avatar’s arrival, Hays had deserted his troops during an attack, with the Avatar finding the dying Reynald as the last witness of said attack. Commander Hays kept hidden the entire time, but after the defeat of the Daemon Triumvirate and the Avatar getting word of the mantra of Valor, he ignited a signal fire and then attacked Raven to get her ship.

Hays came to his end by Raven when she had been forced to kill Hays in self-defense.

Trivia

• Hays is bugged. To trigger the appearance of his ghost, the following events must be followed:
  • At first visit, speak with Raven before leaving the Silver Hart (she suggests a signal fire).
  • After all is done, return to ship (it's still at dock).
  • After returning from Destard, again talk with her, then follow the solution.
  • After killing the Daemons and getting the mantra, but before cleansing the shrine, ignite the fire, then go to the dock, and the scene is triggered.
• Strangely enough, despite Lambert asking, the Avatar still can't give him the news.
