Time travel can cause anachronisms.

In other words, an object that travels back in time from the future is an anachronism.

In Ultima I and Ultima II there are several items (and a few characters) that belong to future ages, and indeed time travel is part of the setting, too. The presence of anachronistic technology is the proof that other characters traveled in time before the Stranger came to Britannia. People with futuristic knowledge (about facts or technology) could actually be met, although they always tried to merge with the populace of the local age.
