Brownie is a farmer living on the outskirts of Britain during Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

Brownie was hard at work tending crops of wheat and pumpkins during the Avatar's passage through Britain. While content with his simple life in the fields, the man was quick to reveal that he had previously made an attempt at politics two years earlier - running for mayor of the city. If asked, he would relate his concerns about the supposedly abolished class system, and of his dissatisfaction for the wide economic gaps in Britannian society. [1]

Despite his noble intentions in running for office, and the support of close friends such as Diane, Mack and Kelly,[2][3] Brownie had ultimately lost the electoral race. His opponent, an ambitious noble named Patterson had used his sizable financial resources and the unquestioning support of his Fellowship support base to secure a landslide victory, garnering near to seventy percent of the vote. [4] Brownie, despite having learned damaging information about Patterson's personal life which might have been able to swing the polls in his favor, refused to use the politician's indiscretions against him, fearing such a scandal might hurt innocent parties involved. If asked about what he had discovered, the honest farmer would only tell the Avatar to follow Patterson closely, given that the then-mayor had done little to conceal his secrets.[5]

Of more immediate concern than his former political career were the day to day tasks of Brownie's harvest. Having thrown out his back due to heavy lifting, the man was having trouble carrying a cache of pumpkins back to his house, and would gladly pay the Avatar a gold coin a piece for helping to bring in his crop. While speaking on the topic of farm work, Brownie would also give brief mention of his neighbor Mack, a chicken farmer renowned for his eccentricity.[6]

Lore[edit]

And two farmers, Brownie and Mack, each pay gold for unskilled labor. Brownie needs help picking pumpkins from his patch and Mack does not usually have time to gather the eggs from his chicken coop every three hours.
