Monitor's Banquet Hall

The Banquet Hall is a ceremonial dining venue, located in Serpent Isle's city of Monitor, that appears in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Situated on Banquet Street in the southeastern corner of the city, Monitor's banquet hall serves to host the celebratory feast that concludes the knighting of a prospective chevalier, in accordance with local tradition. Upon successfully completing the Knight's Test, the subject's totem animal—either a bear, leopard, or wolf, slain as one of the various trials therein—is prepared as the main dish of this occasion, in which a gathering of Monitor's citizenry partakes to honor their new peer.

History[edit]

Long fulfilling its role in Monitorian custom, the banquet hall was similarly the venue in which the Avatar's own knighthood was celebrated during the hero's pursuit of Batlin on Serpent Isle. These festivities were soon marred by controversy, however, with the distressing news of herbalist Harnna's teenage daughter, Cantra, having mysteriously disappeared, as well as growing suspicions of a traitor operating covertly on behalf of the city's goblin adversaries. Such revelations served to aggravate long-standing tensions between the three Knight Commands of Monitor—each of whom sought to lay blame on another—and the ensuing altercation found the event prematurely concluded.

This contentious banquet was the last of its kind to be held before the entirety of Monitor was razed by the escaped Wantonness Bane, which inhabited the Avatar's companion, Dupre, and left the city's population decimated in its wake.

Trivia[edit]

  • A nasty bug surrounds the banquet for the Avatar. Approaching the hall from the west could cause the pikeman at the List Field get deleted. The only solution is, to approach from the east.
