Dialogue[edit]

Father Adrian: "The Guilds guard the Mantras. Visit the guildhouses here in Britain and speak to their scribes. Start with the Druids, Paladins and Mages. They're the most likely to help you."

...

Guildscribe Kline: "Few have the strength of character to be a Paladin these days. It takes more than a strong sword arm to live up to the way of the Word and the Blade."

You: "I'm on a mission from Lady British." (Story)

Guildscribe Kline: "Lady British sorely needs people like you. The land grows ill without Avatars to refresh and guard its soul."

You: "Why? What is wrong?" (Story)

Guildscribe Kline: "People are apathetic, the leaders corrupt, and The Weep has come. The land grays and its luster tarnishes. The threat of plague permeates everything; I dread our chances of casting off this darkness."

You: "Why does everyone talk about Avatars?" (Story)

Guildscribe Kline: "Don't you understand? This quest will change you. In seeking the Mantras you have begun to transform yourself into an Avatar, even if you don't know it yet."

You: "Will you teach me the Mantra of Honour?" (Advance Quest)

Guildscribe Kline: "It is my duty to enlighten all who ask. Precious few do these days. Tell me, what will you do with the Mantra once you know it?"

(You have three choices:))

  • "I will help Lady British, just like I promised." (+Honour)
  • "I will help the people of Britannia." (+Compassion)
  • "I will use it to better myself." (+Spirituality)

[Kline nods and then whispers the Mantra of Honour in your ear.]

...

Guildscribe Cromwell: "You've a hurried look on your face, Stranger. How can the Mages Guild help you today?"

You: "What do you know of the First Avatar?" (Story)

Guildscribe Cromwell: "I know he quested long and hard to find the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. I'd give you eyeteeth to read that Codex. It's said to be sentient, omniglossal and... well, immensely wise."

You: "What do you mean by sentient?" (Story)

Guildscribe Cromwell: "The Codex contains the wisdom of all Infinity. All that knowledge has made it alive. It has its own thoughts and resists attempts by the virtueless to read it."

You: "Omni what now?" (Story)

Guildscribe Cromwell: "Omniglossal is Mage for 'speaks every language'. The Codex is intelligent, you see. It translates its words to suit whoever is reading it. Amazing, yes?"

You: "I need to know the Mantra of Honesty." (Advance Quest)

Guildscribe Cromwell: "Most folks have forgotten the Mantra of Honesty even exists. Why should I reach you this powerful secret?"

(You have three choices:))

  • "It's your duty to spread the truth." (+Honour)
  • "Share your secret for the good of Britannia." (+Sacrifice)
  • "I can't follow the First Avatar without it." (+Honesty)

[Cromwell smiles and then whispers the Mantra of Honesty in your ear.]

...

Guildscribe Silent: "Welcome to the Guildhouse, Stranger. How can I help you?"

You: "Do you know the Mantra of Justice?" (Advance Quest)

Guildscribe Silent: "The Mantra of Justice will help you learn the Virtue faster and unlock certain magical doors. I can teach it, if you think you are ready."

(You have three choices:))

[Silent whispers the Mantra of Justice in your ear.]
